Writing

Born to write, I mostly identify as an academic, educational content, general nonfiction, and creative writer.
I have several academic publications, including journal articles, reviews, blogs, contributions to books, and a forthcoming monograph, The Relational Structure of Discourse: The Case of Religion and Science [working title], Supplements to Method and Theory in the Study of Religion (Brill, forthcoming). I primarily write on religion and science and contextualize my findings in terms of concept and knowledge formation.
I wrote about two hundred encyclopedia entries for the late Frank K. Flinn's Religion and Culture (Infobase / Facts on File) and Religion and Politics (Infobase/ Facts on File), which, unfortunately, never made it to print due to unforseen circumstances. Infobase saw fit to employ my services again, and I recently authored Buddhist Faith in America, 3rd ed. (Chelsea House, 2023) and then Hindu, Jain, and Sikh Faiths in America, 3rd ed. (Chelsea House, forthcoming) at their request.
Lately, I have been wanting to do more in general nonfiction, creating content that has appeal beyond academic circles. Currently, I am researching the intersection of religion, dreams, and society for a new book with the working title A Dream Come True: How Dreams Have Shaped the History of Religion and Society. For more on my current research, click here.
Finally, as a creative writer, I write poetry and short stories. Currently, I am working on expanding and compiling these works into my own Dandelion Wine (1957). This Ray Bradbury novel was originally a compilation of short stories. However, an interested publisher asked him to take those stories and turn them into a novel, becoming the book it is today. Drawing inspiration from Bradbury in both format and style, with a dark surrealism reminiscent of Neil Gaiman, I write about the “child mind” that lives forever in endless summer.
